I booked a reservation for my husband and me at 3:30pm on a Saturday. We parked inside a closeby garage and walked about a minute to the front entrance. We were seated immediately in a booth by the bar area. This restaurant is huge as we saw many different seating and loved how beautiful the outside patio seating looked. There's an upstairs too with an additional bathroom area. The food was excellent! My husband loved his birria quesadillas and he let me try, the meat was so tender and juicy. I really liked my rolled tacos which was basically taquitos. The tortilla soup was pretty good with nice big chunks of shredded chicken but I'd skip on it next time. I was hoping to order a dozen of the handmade tortillas with butter, but our waitress said they were short staffed and were not selling them to serve. I was very disappointed since that was the number one thing I was looking forward to. Later on, our waitress surprised me and gave me two handmade tortillas which was so nice of her! I also had the hibiscus margarita and it was a big drink, I could only handle the one. Overall, we had a great time here and enjoyed the carefree and the clay tiled Mexico City aesthetic.

As you walk up to the restaurant, you see the ladies making the tortillas. Fresh batches. We walked in as soon as the doors were open for breakfast. We were immediately seated. A gentleman brought a basket of fresh chips and salsa, as soon as he left, a waiter came by to hand us the menu and asked what kind of drinks we would have. We gave him our order, and when he came back we were ready to place our meal. I chose the Chilaquiles plate with added Carne Asadas, and my husband chose the Combo plate that consists of Chilaquiles, enchiladas, and chili rellanos with rice and beans. The Chilaquiles were so-so. Nothing to brag about. I have tasted better. It was somewhat bland in my opinion. Very little eggs, and cheese. It was mostly tortillas and sauce. My husband on the other hand loved his plate. The ambiance was cleaned and it looked like it was remodeled from the last time we were there which was many years ago. Our waiter was excellent and stopped by to check up on us. Overall, it was great.

Cafe Coyote is the star of Old Town San Diego. If Mexican cuisine is your favorite, this is the place to go. The menu shines with a wide variety of dishes, ensuring there's something for everyone. Their freshly made tortillas are unbeatable, and the Birria plate is a showstopper. The breakfast items are a home run too. It's a bit on the pricier side, likely due to the prime location, but the serving sizes and overall quality make it worth it. We will definitely be back!

Decided to switch up our normal Mexican restaurant routine and come to old town and I'm so glad we did! I found a new favorite restaurant in Cafe Coyote. The atmosphere is unbeatable and incomparable. There are mariachi bands, they take your picture and give you a free postcard to remember your experience, and the decor in all the different eating areas is beautiful. And you can't forget the authentic tortillas being made out front. Yelp chick in provided the free chorizo bean dip which was tastey. For the main course I got the old town famous carnitas plate which was great. The carnitas are cooked perfectly. The fixings are all perfect and the tortillas are right off the grill. My mom got the birria taco which was super flavorful and my mother in law got the tostada supreme which was a huge 3 meals worth! I can't wait to come back here for more celebrations!

Haven't been here even though I'm a local and decided to go Today for my friends birthday lunch. Despite being a tourist spot in Old Town right on The main drag, the food is way bueno and prices are fair for the festive atmosphere. Handmade tortillas are served and mariachis are singing and there are tables and rooms available everywhere!! We sat in the covered bar area and had a view of the street. Crowded but got seated immediately and ordered and our food must have been prepared by the magic genie because it came out in minutes. Portions are big. Birria taco was stuffed and full Of warm Broth and meat. The carnitas plate was first rate as was the tostada supreme. We received a free bean and chorizo dip with our yelp status.
